In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the MercifulAnnouncement regarding the New Crescent of the Month of Shawal 1429To all Believers in North America, May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon all of you "The Crescent Committee" of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America would like to inform you that it has researched the New Crescent of the Month of Shawal on the night of Monday the 29th of the month of Ramadhan 1429 (September 29th, 2008) in different cities and states in North America and South America, and no sighting of the New Crescent was reported.
Therefore, God willing, Tuesday will be the 30th of the Holy Month of Ramadhan, which follows that Wednesday is the first day of the Month of Shawal, the day of Eid el-Fitr.
We ask the Almighty Allah to make it a rewarding and blessed day, and hasten the appearance of our 12th Holy Imam peace be upon him.

'Fasting’ or ‘Sawm’ In Islam
When you are observing Sawn you must behave better than on other days. You must keep your tongue from idle and useless speech. Don't give way to jealousy. Abstain from speaking ill of others and from faultfinding. Be more kind than usual to people and make their life comfortable. |

To all Believers in North America,
Peace and blessings upon you,
While the possibilities of the New Crescent sightings based on astronomical data were weak, we were in fact able to confirm the sighting of the New Crescent of the Holy Month of Ramadan, 1429 in the city of Detroit at sunset on Sunday August 31st, 2008 based on the religious standard of sighting with the naked eye. As such, tomorrow Monday September 1st, 2008 is the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan in North America based upon the principles of his Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani and the Late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid al-Khoei.
May Allah make it a blessed month.
